Yarn Along, Volume 2

Linking up with Ginny today...

I was attempting to make a scarf with a lace-like pattern that seemed somewhat easy, but after 10+ attempts, I just decided to do something much more basic for this beginner!  I wasn't sure about the color at first, but with a light gray coat, I think it will be nice.

The orange cowl from the last time did not turn out as expected.  It's not as wide as I wanted and both sides roll inwards.  I'm such an amateur!!

I am reading a couple of things at this point:  An Advent reflection book by Fr. Barron and Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis (both in a tablet version).

Looking forward to checking out everyone else's projects today :)

  1. Try blocking it to see if that helps with the rolling. And for future non-rolling scarves, I find it helps to add an alternate stitch on each end of the row to help it lay flat (i.e. if you are gartering, add a purl stitch to each end) Hope that helps! Lovely yarn color, and your rib knit looks lovely.

  2. Lace still overwhelms me and I have been knitting for years. It takes me a while to figure out the pattern and be able to "read" it as I go along. All I can say is use lots of stitch markers to help with the counting of stitches. The current project you are working on looks like it is going to be lovely!

    1. Thank you and I think I will wait a while before attempting lace again :)

  3. But at least you are trying new techniques and that is what will make you a better knitter. Stick with it!

  4. I made one similar to this as one of my first projects this year. My teacher had me put a little ruffle on each end. Which I did thinking it would be silly, but it's really very nice. A little floof and character, and weights the ends a bit. Yours is looking lovely! paula@weewhimsicals xoxo

    1. It's funny you say that, I was thinking that a ruffle would be a nice addition. I'll have to look that up. Thank you!

  5. You might also try slipping the first stitch purl wise on each row.
